Hi folks,

I have recently had a 5kW Solis inverter and 15kW/hr of batteries installed. Everything is working fine, but I have some concerns about the quality of the install:
  • I wasn't given any documentation, so no "part P" documentation.
  • Around three metres of new meter tails were added - running from the electricity meter to a new consumer unit which feeds the inverter. I think meter tails are double-insulated, so probably no issue there.
  • Those new meter tails are supported by cable ties - attaching them to a gas pipe which conveniently runs in the same direction.
So, am I worrying needlessly, or should I be concerned.

Thanks for your thoughts,

Nick

You have every right to be concerned. Under no circumstances should cables be tied to a gas service pipe. Have you contacted the company for certification?

Thank you for confirming that. So far, I have written to them asking for clarification on what should happen with regard to Part P.

No response as yet, but it is the weekend.

Thanks again!

OK, things have moved on. I have also noticed that the meter tails that were installed in the meter cabinet have exposed inner insulation on several of the tails. I complained about that too. I have now been visited by a different pair of engineers. They made little comment, but fixed the issue with the exposed inner insulation. They also fixed the invertor properly to the wall - apparently a screw was missing. They also stated that there was no issue with the tails being clipped to a gas pipe, because the tails actually don't need to be supported at all.

I have also received a "Building Regulations Certificate of Compliance" which I presume is the long-awaited Part P. It just says "8002 - Install one or more new circuits". In my mind, I am comparing that with or recent kitchen extension for which we also got a very long document, a "Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate" defining each circuit that was added, along with all the testing details.

Thoughst very welcome.

Thanks,

Nick
