But Looe is not on the main line.Looe
No wonder I can't earn anything, they are all around me.But Looe is not on the main line.
I'm not far from you.
Don't worry. Far enough away to not be treading on your toes.No wonder I can't earn anything, they are all around me.
I work 3 days a week looking after a holiday complex, so don't do much electrical work outside of that anyway.Don't worry. Far enough away to not be treading on your toes.
Siemens 5SJ6113-6KSI didn't know you could get 13a MCBs. Every day a school day!

When you come across some of the worst bodges you ever saw, and you're showing them to the client, and they're saying 'Dad would never have done that, he was an electrical engineer!'Kitchen revamp day today, the chap who wired it originally has an electrical engineering background.
All 21 of the cottages were wired by him over a 40 yr period, the sub mains is partly swa but mostly 16 mm T&e.When you come across some of the worst bodges you ever saw, and you're showing them to the client, and they're saying 'Dad would never have done that, he was an electrical engineer!'
Having lots of brains but no planning sense makes for the botch upthey couldn't even put the plasterboard the right way up! Stand on your head trying to read it.
thats pretty standard bodge up hiding joint boxes in walls back in the day.
Yeah, I had to reduce mine to about 700k i think.Does anyone else have issues uploading photos? It keeps complaining about file size.
Yeah I think your right. I thought this looked iffy too:Quite an effort, but definitely DIY.

The cables aren't on the insulators and are just flapping about. Surely that's not right? Why?

I haven't yet tbh. I'll be calling them next week and will mention this to them too...@Aaron b
Did you tell your customer to report that, Or have you? It needs attention urgently before it goes pop in the high winds!

That's what I thought, but the pic resolution isn't good enough to be sure. Are you sure they aren't attached? It looks like they have been bound to the top of the insulators with binding wire.
Perhaps, I wasn't aware of that practice. There appears to be something on the top section of the insulator but I couldn't be sure. Are you sure they aren't attached? It looks like they have been bound to the top of the insulators with binding wire.
That's a good point. I'll check from another angle when I'm that way again. Every days a school day!The fact they all appear to be in contact with the insulators suggests they are tied to them, badly.
Two of the three conductors look a bit too close to each other but that could just be the camera angle.
Typical farm install.
Just to replace a socket.
First time I’ve walked away from a job. I’m not touching it until they agree to some upgrading.

I didn’t have time to read the bottles… but trust you to notice that.I would be more worried about being invited to a place with that bottle of 'Superlube' in the foreground
Rod at the house end?Thought this was nice, sub main to a dwelling
Been there before have youI would be more worried about being invited to a place with that bottle of 'Superlube' in the foreground
Just needs a wire brushing and maybe a lick of paintTypical farm install.

Got a phone call the other day. I’d repaired a cable which I think I posted in this thread a while back. It was next to a gas boiler and had exposed copper.
Anyway they had a plumber out as the boiler needed replacing.
Said plumber told the tenants that the repair was dangerous as it should be in a junction box. So they rang the landlord who then rang me. Spoke to landlord and said I’d go and take a look but can guarantee it wasn’t a dangerous repair.
Photo attached of the repair I did.
Each conductor individually crimped, the cable is double heat shrink covered. And it was clipped back, I just pulled it forward to check it (and get a pic) and clipped it back again.
Can anyone explain what’s dangerous as I’m at a loss?
I did tell the plumber to stick to pipes and leave the magic to me.

As long as he learns and doesn't presume that every in line joint is done to that standard and can recognise so.He's probably assumed it's just been twisted together and taped/sleeved. I suppose it's good to be on the safe side. As long as he listens to you and updates his awareness then all is OK I suppose.
Those screw heads look well-used.View attachment 105503
