We have this thread on TilersForums.com and it's just been restarted because the old thread had 20,000 replies and 500,000 views. And there were 700 pages. Started to lag a bit on slow connections.

I think we had a bash of this before, but I can't find the thread, so thought I'd start another one off.

If you have time in the mornings, come post in the thread before you head off to work, let us know what you've got on and what the weather is like in your area etc. Anything at all is fine.

I used to have a little lightweight car powered by the 998cc version of this engine, which now resides with my nephew.

While typing this post, a quick google search turned up the owners club and I found an image of my car shortly after a prior restoration and its initial road registration.

Kept my version as the original 875cc as they where easy to source when I broke them, usually a rod through the crankcase, eventually put on electronic ignition with a rev limiter which helped. . That reminds me of the mechanically injected six cylinder I had with a rev cut out in the distributor, worked on centrifugal force, when it cut out the fuel injection was still pumping away and the fuel would accumulate in the exhaust, once the ignition cut in again the backfire and flame out the back was really fun.

So, back home, and myself and one of the girls aren’t feeling too good. Runny noses, sneezing, coughing…. All 4 of us have done a covid test, and guess what?

My red line is much darker than hers…. So it looks like she’s coming out of it, and I’m still in the middle.

Scottish govt guidelines says to “stay at home” rather then self isolate.


And earlier…. Coming up A1, a stupid Motorhome driver pulled out of a lay by in front of me….. luckily nothing in other lane, considering I was pulling the caravan….. could have been nasty.

I really don’t know.

We’ve been on holiday at Barnard Castle… didn’t really go into any crowded places. Even when the wife went into the shops, I stayed at the car with the dog.

My daughter, who also tested positive with a faint line yesterday, but clear today… babysits for a local family and the husband is also positive…

So I maybe got it from her, who maybe got it from her babysitting house…

Or I picked it up before we left from customers who have had it beforehand.

It’s maybe gone through a few people, but no symptoms- no testing… and we’re not testing every few days like we were.

We’re all vaccinated… but my worry is if I pass it on to someone that isn’t, for whatever reason…

Thanks for the informative response, we have managed to stay clear, but then I am a miserable old man who does not socialise or go to work, the only person we see is the Tesco delivery driver every Monday and even then we keep our distance, wear masks and surgical gloves, I suppose one day I will have to go beyond the confines of our place and heaven help anyone who invades my space.

My wife got it back in February… but she works in a nursery school, so not surprising. I’ve always wore a mask when in peoples homes, whether the current guidelines or not.
The kids are at the same school, and followed their rules as needed. The younger one still hasn’t had it…. At least we don’t think she’s had it.

While we’ve been away, there has been open air concerts locally… so likely another rise in numbers from there.
Michael Buble, Bryan Adams and Tears For Fears… all on different days in one week at the same venue.
Although after the first night, they realised people could park up on the other side of the river, sit on a hill and watch it for nothing.

Motorhome that pulled out eventually passes us. My wife says that the woman in the passenger seat has a dog on her lap.... I not sure that's particularly legal now.
Keep watching until about a minute in, when the copper coloured Discovery passes. The motorhome then pulls out in front of them... causing them, and the car behind to brake...

Well, today was never going to run smoothly.

Took car into garage this morning to find a rattle that isn’t always there… Got eldest to pick up from train station at 1:30 after her little trip to London… so I organised a nice easy downlight fit out today in a kitchen I’m working in….

All measured and worked out beforehand so I wouldn’t hit a beam…..


That’ll be the joiners strapping holding up the lowered ceiling… @*%#

On the plus side… it’s a bungalow. He’ll just have to refix from above. It should have been screwed directly to the original beams.

Today I will be mostly avoiding the Tour of Britain cycle race as it meanders across the Scottish Borders.

Will be watching it later on ITV4 if anyone wants to see our lovely scenery…

Let’s see…. Potholes, cobbled streets and roadkill. I see a couple of pile-ups happening.
Not to mention the ignorant members of the public that just don’t see “road closed” signs and will park in the daftest places.

The kids will also be late home from school as the bus will be delayed.

Checking the route of the the tour of Britain, I’ll be watching the highlights tonight and play a game of “I-worked-in-that-building!”…. Should be at least 12….

I took a drive up the route local to me, and the pavements were already lined with spectators.

Yesterday, I did some work at a major rail project going on in the midlands.
i diagnosed a faulty 5 pin 16A plug and socket combo that had been damaged by use whilst not fully inserted.

in total it took 2 Hours to do a 20min job. 5 other people on site had to get involved to generate the permits, paperwork, etc.

it is difficult to see why the project is running over budget!

Currently sitting in the van tucking into chocolate snacks after giving blood.
No fainting daughter this time, she’s back at uni.

This mornings job was to change the supply for lights in a bathroom from a rodent damaged cable onto a fused spur from rfc. Which also covered putting a fuse in for a replacement extractor fan. Saved a lot of furniture moving and carpet lifting to cut out the old cable.


Before that, early wake up thanks to some school prank.

My youngest came back from school yesterday with someone else’s phone in her bag. Turns out someone in her class decided it would be fun to steal another girls phone and plant it in my daughters bag.
Only chance they had was during PE, when the bags were unattended…. So she has a good idea which group of girls it was.

She spent all afternoon oblivious to this, but knowing this other girl had lost her phone…. Who was now frantic.
When she got home and realised, she messaged the girl and told her she had the phone.

6 o’clock this morning… this phone decided to wake up the house due to the alarm clock….
Then again at 6:15, 6:30, 6:45…… every 15 minutes until half 7.

Teenage girls can be horrible sometimes.

I have always drilled a fixing hole in any type of conduit box, however was watching a YT electrician and he states its not necessary as its supported by the conduit saddles etc.
I don't know anybody that relies on that method.

There are moulded dips in a conduit box which invites being drilled through… so I think it needs to be done.

Next you’ll be saying everything needs to be glued together.

Two good reasons are that a metal screw compromises the !P rating of the box, especially against water ingress, and there are often live joints inside a PVC box, creating the risk of a short to the metal screw head.

So you would happily have a bank of fluorescent fittings on two foot centres (could be on jack chains) only being supported by the saddles. NOT ME

My OP was specifically PVC conduit boxes, and drilling them. I suppose it might be different whether I fix the box itself if it were metal, needed a high IP level and had nothing hanging from it.

Most batten light fittings come pre drilled (or pre marked for drilling) to fit on 2 boxes.
